A Boudoir Session Is The Ultimate Self-Care!

If someone asked you how you take care of yourself, what would you say?

Would you struggle to find the answer?

How about answering the question, “how do you take care of the ones you love?”

If that last question is a LOT easier to answer than the first, you're not alone.

Women are taught from the time that they are little girls, that she should be of service to other people in order to be complete. So often, we forget to take care of ourselves or put ourselves last (and let’s face it, sometimes we never ever get to taking care of us).

Self-care is so much more than manicures or getting a mud masque while you eat some ice cream. It is about enjoying our lives, knowing what we really want and going for it, and facing our fears in order to feel strong and powerful.

That is why I love being a boudoir photographer so much.

On the outside, it may seem like it’s all just pretty pictures. But behind every photo shoot is a story. Every client has a story that they carry with them into the studio (or outside with them if they are doing an outdoor boudoir photo shoot)!

That story almost always has a little bit of pain. We’ve all been told at one point or another that we aren’t good enough in some way, or that we are selfish for asking for (and getting) what makes us happy.

A boudoir session is a chance to deliberately and intentionally take care of yourself, just for you. Getting your hair and makeup done, wearing fun lingerie, and having your photo taken may seem like it is purely glamorous, but it is very meaningful to clients who step in front of the camera.

Boudoir photography helps us to answer questions about ourselves that we aren’t asked very often.

What makes us feel sexy?

If we could wave a magic wand and look like our most glamorous self every day, what would that look like?

How do we feel when something is all about us, we are getting all the attention and we get to feel amazing without feeling bad about it?

We've been tricked into believing that other people get to answer that for us, or that we have to fight to have the answers heard. You don't have to have an answer right away, and in front of a photographer’s camera is a place where you should never have to feel like you are not being heard. Beyond all the details of getting a great photo, I love listening to what makes you feel your best, what parts of your body you are proud of, and what makes you feel comfortable and sexy.

What I love most about my job is giving you the experience of someone else listening to you, freedom from the idea that you need to apologize about who you are, and creating a space where everything is about answering those questions that should be easy to answer but sometimes aren't. And I believe that once you have this experience, it might help you to ask those questions (and find answers to them) long after your boudoir session is over.
